Theater lovers of all ages are in for a special treat when Veterans Park Elementary School’s Drama Club presents Beauty & the Beast, Jr. in the Ludlow High School Auditorium on Saturday, May 6th at 6:30pm and Sunday, May 7th at 2pm.

This classic Disney tale tells the story of a young woman, Belle, who lives in a small town, and the Beast, who is really a prince, placed under the spell of an enchantress. As the story unfolds the audience learns that if the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end, and he will once again live his life as a prince.  Time is running out and the Beast must find love or he and his household will be cursed for all eternity.

Co-directors, Ms. Nicole Sousa (Veterans Park Music Teacher) and Miss Chrissy James (Veterans Park 4th Grade Teacher) share that there are a total of 80 students who will participate in this year’s production, including, Emily Wegiel as Belle, Lucas Gonsalves as the Beast,  AJ Goncalves as Gaston and Eamon DiVenuto as Lefou (Gaston's sidekick). Sousa explained that there are also many fun supporting roles allowing students to play enchanted objects inside the castle such as a tea pot, clock and feather duster.

James shared that final rehearsals are in full swing, with performers  continuing to learn their lines, along with delving into their characters and rehearsing some of the classic songs from the 1991 Disney film - including the ever popular song Be Our Guest. The finishing touches of the spectacular costumes and stage design are also on track to impress and dazzle audiences.

General seating tickets for both performances are $8 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased in advance by stopping by the Veterans Park School Office between 9am and 2pm, until Wednesday, May 3rd. Tickets may also be purchased at the door until sold out!
