On March 2nd, as part of the National Education Association Read Across America Campaign, celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss, Veterans Park School invited Ludlow community members to be guest readers in each of the 4th and 5th grade classrooms. The guest list included law enforcement, educators, veterans, bank personnel, school committee members, etc. To view the full list of names click here.

Books read included Some Birthday and Picnic at Mudsock Meadow by Patricia Polacco and Sweetest Fig and Widow’s Broom by Chris Van Allsburg.  The guest readers also spoke to  students about why reading is important in their lives, and also shared their favorite books when they were younger, and books they were currently reading.

Students were encouraged to wear pajamas to school as part of the the theme for the day- Cozy up to a good book. The event ended with a school-wide, 20 minute, Drop Everything and Read.

Many thanks to  Mrs. Carol O'Shea, reading specialist, and Ms. Nicole Sousa, music teacher, who organized this event.
